Welcome!

As a therapist, with 35 years experience, I am passionate about encouraging therapists and medics to undertake specialist training related to working with survivors of childhood trauma.

This is why I have written The Girls Within – a true story of triumph over trauma and abuse. The Girls Within offers inspiration and hope to those who live or work with the legacy of childhood abuse. Also, because it reads like a novel, it should captivate anyone who enjoys a story in which good triumphs over evil. The book showcases the extraordinary way in which energy treatment when integrated with talking therapy, within a safe and caring therapeutic relationship, has the potential to promote healing and wholeness.

It is a shocking truth that child abuse is far more prevalent than most people realise or could begin to believe. A government-backed survey in 2019 reported that one in five adults in the UK had experienced abuse as children. In addition, the survey uncovered that in cases of child sexual abuse, it is mostly family and friends who are the perpetrators.

We shouldn’t be surprised that such early abuse frequently results in people developing serious mental health problems, including dissociative disorders. Yet vast numbers of mental health professionals lack the necessary knowledge and training to make accurate diagnoses and, as a consequence, the right skills to treat these vulnerable and distressed individuals.

I am determined to raise awareness and understanding of dissociative identity disorder (DID) among professionals and the general public. Most people know very little about this extreme condition which develops as a result of severe childhood trauma, abuse or neglect. Additionally, there is growing evidence to suggest that trauma can also be inherited from our ancestors. (See News & Views) Although it’s considered to be rare, research figures imply that there could be more people with DID than schizophrenia in Britain.

Why do so many people know so little about DID?  If you’re interested to find answers to this question visit News & Views. There you can watch the video of the live webinar, Dissociative Identity Disorder - The Hidden Condition. The panel of experts  discussing this issue are Valerie Sinason, Gill Frost & Amanda Ball.

For those who are mystified about the complexities of DID, and how to handle or work with it therapeutically, this video could be very helpful. Demystifying DID - Common Questions Answered, is a follow up to the webinar, DID The Hidden Condition. The panel of experts answer frequently asked questions about DID. To watch the video follow the link in News & Views.

I have also published a series of soundbite recordings via TikTok. In total, there are 67 short videos presenting a ‘speeded up’ version of The Girls Within. See TikTok Videos to view.

I trust this website stimulates interest in therapists and medics. It would thrill me if it prompted more professionals to sign up for training courses related to trauma and dissociative disorders. I would also be delighted if some of the resources enabled people to find valuable information and maybe even a much-needed therapist.

At the heart of this website is the notion that we are all Multiples, made up of various internal parts. (See News & Views) Some of these are younger aspects of ourselves, and others are different personas, who collectively make us unique. Hence the website banner of personalities that we may identify with: the Warrior, Caregiver, Hero, Lover, Judge, Joker and Sovereign, to name but a few.

For any readers who are survivors of abuse, please take care when reading through this website as some content may be triggering.
